Tens and Ones Approach

Ÿ It is very important to introduce the concept of tens and ones while learning numbers.

Ÿ Teach numbers 1-50 using this approach. (The pages ahead will help you with the same.)
Ÿ Apart from the visual aid each page provides, also bring cubes and demonstrate each
number in class.
Ÿ While teaching numbers 1-50, at regular intervals form groups of children and ask them

to form towers as per the dictated number. (Give a different number to each group, but
make sure you choose the numbers which are already taught.)
Ÿ As and how the children get a grip on the tens and ones concept you may also replace the

cubes with a bundle of ice cream sticks or pencils. This will make sure children are able to
apply the learnt concept in the real world too.
