Before, After and Between

          Let’s Get Started

Do this activity to introduce the concept of before-between-after.
          Ÿ Get colourful cut-outs of a square, a triangle and a circle.

Ÿ Place the 3 cut-outs on the board using blu tack in the sequence.
Ÿ Draw children’s attention to the shapes and revise the name of each shape.
Ÿ Point to the triangle and draw a circle around it.

Ÿ Now point to the circle and say, ‘The circle is before the triangle.’ (Let the children
              observe and understand.)
Ÿ Now point to the square and say, ‘The square is after the triangle.’ (Let the children

              observe and understand.)
Ÿ Now point to the triangle and say, ‘The triangle is in between the circle and the square.’
(Let the children observe and understand.)
Ÿ Remove the shapes from the board and place them again in a different sequence.

Ÿ Assess children’s understanding by asking them which shape is before, after and
              between as per the sequence.
Ÿ You may change the sequence as many times till all the children get a chance to answer.

Observe and Understand Teddy is in between Tom and Camy.

              Tom is before Teddy.

                                                                                           Camy is after Teddy.
